Massage

Nat Broad Physio sports massage

Often the first time we notice the stress and tension we carry is when an injury occurs. We actively advocate regular massage for people with busy, repetitive, demanding jobs or sporting lifestyles. Massage is a brilliant preventative tool for injuries.

Massage is the manipulation of the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia). We offer relaxation massages for tired aching muscles and to promote stress relief. Deeper pressures can relax muscles that are tight or fatigued following exercise or work-related activities.

Our massages are 30 and 45 minutes in length and include an assessment. 30-minute massages tend to cover either legs, or shoulder, neck and upper back or full back. 45 minutes include full body.

Benefits include:
Ease stiff aching muscles
Treat muscle injuries, pain and soreness
Help prevent injury
Reduce tension and stress
Enhance athletic performance
Increase mobility
Restore normal function
Aid recovery
Improve sleep
Relieve day to day stress

At Nat Broad Physiotherapy we offer a range of massages

Swedish massage

Swedish massage involves similar massage strokes involved in deep tissue massage, but applied in a gentle manner. It can help to resolve stress and tension built up from every-day life to refresh and relax you.
This massage is great for those new to massage, sensitive to touch or have a lot of tension. These tend to be full body and a great option for when you want to fully relax.

Deep tissue massage
Deep tissue massage involves applying firmer pressure than Swedish massage. It uses slow, deep strokes to soothe the deepest layers of muscle and connective tissue. It can help to relieve tight muscles, chronic muscle pain and anxiety. This type of massage is a great option for chronic pain or muscle tension.

Sports massage
Sports massage can be beneficial as part of training and conditioning, before sporting activity, during, post activity or travel and as a means of injury prevention and recovery. It can prepare for performance and help rehabilitate sore, stressed and overused muscles. We can use techniques to increase flexibility, range of motion, reduce pain and restore function. Sports massage can be performed as a full body or focused to target specific areas.

Advanced massage

Trigger point massage – Trigger points (‘knots’) are areas of tightness in muscle tissues that can cause pain in other parts of the body. This type of massage alternates gentle, relaxing strokes and deeper pressure. Focused pressure over a trigger point can release it and reduce pain. These are best suited to people who have injuries, chronic pain or a specific condition. Often trigger point technique is combined in other massages or in isolation as a treatment.

Soft Tissue Release

A technique of assisted stretching of muscles, tendons and fascia. It involves applying pressure to part of a muscle and then stretching. It can be helpful in treating pain, improving mobility and in conjunction with sports activity.

Muscle Energy Techniques

We use METs to compliment most massages. This technique helps to relieve over-tense muscles and restore shortened muscles to their normal length. The technique involves a short-sustained muscle contraction followed by a stretch. By improving elasticity it can ease tense muscles and restore range of motion.

We use these techniques during or following general massages, or in isolation to treat specific injuries. Often these combinations produce immediate improvements
