Nat Broad Physio Penrith

Hi, I’m Nat and I’m originally from London. I moved to Penrith over 10 years ago to undertake an Outdoor Leadership and Instruction Degree. The course focused heavily on the psychology of leadership and instruction and briefly on the physical demand placed on the body. I have always been interested in physiology and pathology and returned to UCLAN to complete a degree in Physiotherapy, graduating with First Class Honours.

I spent quite a bit of time during my physiotherapy training, working with older people promoting falls prevention, restoring balance and re-educating gait. I have a keen interest in dementia and in preventing orthopaedic related hospital admissions in the older population. Alongside my private clients, I worked within the NHS as a physiotherapist until early 2020.

I have experience of sports injuries among professional and semi-professional athletes, both alongside the first team of Carlisle United Football Club and in providing physiotherapy for Penrith AFC. I have previously worked with Carlisle City, Workington Reds and Bradford Park Avenue football clubs. In addition to my degree, I completed several sports injury and therapy courses, as well as athletic taping and Kinesiology taping qualifications. I am qualified in Level 4 massage, including advanced techniques to restore muscle length and function.

From my psychology background, I understand that the experience of having a condition or injury can often impact recovery and life. As such, I have a keen interest in truly understanding what is important for my clients and tailoring my service to holistically meet those needs. It is just as important to approach how a client feels about their condition as it is how they physically experience it.

Away from physio, I am a keen footballer having spent my youth at Women’s Championship team Millwall Lionesses.  At present, I play in the Women’s National League with Morecambe.  I have enjoyed over twenty years playing football, and have first-hand experience of sustaining and recovering from an injury and the process of returning to playing and normal life. I often draw from this experience when approaching my clients from a place of true empathy.

Aside from playing, I also coach locally with children as young as 2 alongside Irwin Wallace, at Castletown Juniors and Nappy Squad. Nearly 20 years’ experience working with children has gifted me not only joy, but moulded me into a patient, adaptable and person focused coach; all elements transferable to my role as a physio.

I pride myself in knowing and understanding the individual needs of all my children and work tirelessly with parents to ensure each child is coached in the way most suited to them.

I am currently undertaking the SMUG PG Cert in diagnostic ultrasound.
