Advanced Massage

Trigger point massage – Trigger points (‘knots’) are areas of  tightness in muscle tissues that can cause pain in other parts of the body. This type of massage alternates gentle, relaxing strokes and deeper pressure. Focused pressure over a trigger point can release it and reduce pain. These are best suited to people who have injuries, chronic pain or a specific condition. Often trigger point technique is combined in other massages or in isolation as a treatment.
Soft Tissue Release – A technique of assisted stretching of muscles, tendons and fascia. It involves applying pressure to part of a muscle and then stretching. It can be helpful in treating pain, improving mobility and in conjunction with sports activity.
Muscle Energy Techniques – We use METs to compliment most massages. This technique helps to relieve over-tense muscles and restore shortened muscles to their normal length. The technique involves a short-sustained muscle contraction followed by a stretch. By improving elasticity it can ease tense muscles and restore range of motion. We use these techniques during or following general massages, or in isolation to treat specific injuries. Often these combinations produce immediate improvements.
